Staff report

COLUMBIA - Gov. Nikki Haley's reelection campaign today released two new television ads calling attention to her economic development record.

The 30-second ads were to begin airing statewide this week on broadcast and cable television, the campaign said in a news release.

The ads are her first of the election cycle.

One of the ads features business and civic leaders, while the other features the governor herself. Both ads call attention to how the state's economic outlook and employment have improved since Haley took office four years ago.

"With more South Carolinians working than ever before, unemployment hitting record lows and the fastest growing economy on the East Coast, Gov. Haley is delivering results to the people of our state, and South Carolina is on the move," said campaign spokesman Rob Godfrey. "We're proud of the governor's record, and we're excited to begin telling that story."

Haley has no opposition in the June 10 primary and will face Democrat challenger state Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden in the general election in November. Greenville attorney Tom J. Ervin had been a GOP primary challenger to Haley, but he dropped out earlier this month and said he would try to run as a petition candidate.
