Charleston Southern's Alex Tomasovich and Denis Buckley earned Big South Conference baseball honors this week.
Tomasovich is the Big South player of the week and Denis Buckley is co-pitcher of the week, sharing that honor with Coastal Carolina's Austin Kerr.
Tomasovich, a senior from Tega Cay, was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored in the Bucs' first win over South Carolina since 2003 as the Bucs defeated the then No. 11 Gamecocks, 4-1, last Tuesday night. He added a 5 for 9 weekend against Asheville with three runs and three RBI in CSU's two wins.
Buckley, a junior from McLean, Va., shut down South Carolina for seven innings in the Bucs' victory. The right-hander came on in the third and worked 6.2 innings to take a shutout into the ninth as the Buccaneers beat the Gamecocks for the first time in 11 years. He scattered six hits and struck out six to improve to 2-0 on the season.
