The Citadel has tapped the Secretary of the Air Force to give the commencement address for the class of 2014.
Deborah Lee James will give the graduation speech to the Corps of Cadets at the military college's 2014 commencement on May 10. James, who took the helm as secretary of the Air Force in 2013, leads the department's more than 690,000 active-duty, Guard and Reserve airmen as well as civilian staff. She oversees a $110 billion budget.
James previously served as president of Science Applications International Corporation's Technical and Engineering sector where she oversaw 8,700 employees and more than $2 billion in revenue. From 1993 to 1998 James worked at the Pentagon as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs handling matters involving the National Guard and reserve personnel.
James holds a bachelor of arts from Duke University and a master's degree in international affairs from Columbia University.
Timothy Case, founding chief technology officer of Priceline.com and co-founder of Main Street Genome, will give the central presentation for the graduate college's commencement also on May 10.
Commencement for the Corps of Cadets will begin at 9 a.m. at McAlister Field House. Tickets are required to attend. The graduate school's commencement will begin at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are not required.
