The Charleston Police Department wants the public's help in identifying a heavily disguised person who robbed a West Ashley bank at gunpoint Tuesday morning.

The armed robbery happened around 11:30 a.m. at the First Palmetto Bank on Sumar Street, police spokesman Charles Francis said. The bank is near Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Old Towne Road.

Dressed in a baseball hat, a construction vest and a mask, the robber was captured on surveillance video. The police released an image from that video to the public.

People with information about the incident should call dispatchers at 843-743-7200 and ask for the Charleston detective on call, or they can call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
