A suspicious package that shut down a North Charleston shopping center Tuesday afternoon turned out to contain a water bottle.
Police, firefighters and the Charleston County Bomb Squad were called to the North 52 Square Shopping Center after a suspicious package was reported. The shopping center is north of Otranto Road at 8850 Rivers Ave. Several businesses were evacuated.
Police were told a white man was seen exiting a vehicle and placing a suitcase on the ground and then getting back in the car and driving off, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
The businesses reopened after the package turned out to contain a water bottle and a couple other items, Pryor said.
