South Carolina will try to shake off the disappointment from its series loss to Florida this past weekend when it hosts Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at Carolina Stadium.
The Gamecocks will host the Buccaneers at 7 p.m. After falling to No. 11 in the Baseball America poll Monday - the first time they've been out of the top 10 this season - it will be a chance to get back on track.
USC coach Chad Holbrook foreshadowed an important, gut-check week ahead for his team.
"This program prides itself on playing with toughness and playing with pride and playing with emotion," Holbrook said after his team's loss to the Gators on Sunday. "When the chips are down, I think we can circle the wagons with the best of them. That's what I expect to see.
"We all know what this program is about and how our guys respond to adversity. When our backs are against the wall, we tend to play our best. That's what I hope to see, and that's what I think I will see."
Junior Evan Beal (0-0, 1.69 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season for the Gamecocks. Junior Joe Pistacchio (1-1, 4.44) will be on the mound for the Buccaneers.
