A Charleston Internet company that markets daily discounts from local businesses has changed hands.
Clearwater, Fla.-based Discount Coupons Corp. said it acquired the assets of Go Charleston Deals LLC on March 31.
Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
The deal included all Go Charleston websites, mailing lists, email addresses, customer lists, supplier lists, trade names, trademarks, service marks and copyrights.
"The opportunity to launch Go Charleston Deals into the next level is thrilling," Holly Roberson, managing member, said in a written statement.
She said the transaction will enable the online business she launched three years ago to "provide more offerings to both our subscribers and merchants because of the additional support and services that Discount Coupons brings to the table. We will continue to expand and grow to more areas as more acquisitions and members are added."
The two companies already use the same technology platform, said Pat Martin, CEO of Discount Coupons, which is a small publicly traded Internet marketing firm that's expanding into the daily deals.
That corner of the electronic-commerce industry uses websites to promote and sell discounted vouchers to consumers in exchange for a fee from the merchants.
Discount Coupons was formed in August 2010 and is classified as a developmental-stage company. It lost $2.8 million on revenue of $32,214 through the first nine months of 2013. It has not yet filed its report for the full year.
The daily deal business began to gain traction in Charleston about four or five years ago with the arrival of deep-pocketed national players, namely Groupon and LivingSocial. The Post and Courier also offers the online promotions. Go Charleston is one of the few locally based daily deal sites that is still in business.
