A student brought a gun to Fort Dorchester High School this morning, district officials said.

According to Dorchester District 2 spokeswoman Pat Raynor, the unloaded pistol fell from a student's pocket during gym class. Another student saw the gun drop and told a teacher, she said.

The weapon was confiscated and North Charleston police took the student into custody, Raynor said. The student had just transferred to the school, she said.

The incident remains under investigation.
