No. 6 seed Eugenie Bouchard eliminated Venus Williams on Thursday to advance to the Family Circle Cup quarterfinals, winning 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 in a match televised live by ESPN2. Williams, the No. 11 seed, won the 2004 Family Circle Cup title.
"Just a lot of errors," Williams said after the match.
No. 4 seed Sabine Lisicki, clearly suffering from a finger blister, was quickly dispatched by No. 14 Andrea Petkovic, 6-1, 6-0.
No. 3 seed Sara Errani got off to a shaky start but got by Shuai Peng in the first Family Circle Cup stadium court match Wednesday, winning 7-6, 7-6.
No. 12 seed Daniela Hantuchova also moved on, defeating Teiana Pereira, 6-2, 6-3 on the Althea Gibson Court. Jana Cepelova, who upset No. 1 seed Serena Williams on Tuesday night, got by No. 13 Elena Vesnina, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.
Hantuchova and Cepelova, fellow Slovakians, will play each other in Friday's quarterfinals.
Later Wednesday, No. 2 Jelena Jankovic is in action.
