The Charleston County Sheriff's Office was among those recognized this week by S.C. Highway Patrol troopers in an award ceremony for efforts made against drunk driving.
This year marked the ninth annual DUI Enforcement Recognition and 2013 Law Enforcement DUI Challenge Ceremony. The awards are held by the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office walked away with the "Agency of the Year Award" for the 162 DUI arrests made by its Traffic Division in 2013, according to sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
The award was presented under a division for law enforcement agencies with more than 100 officers.
Watson said the recognition was a "huge honor" for the Sheriff's Office.
North Charleston police officer Jonathan Lawrence also was recognized for making 100 DUI arrests in 2013, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
