A police report released by North Charleston police Thursday morning offered few details about the argument that left 22-year-old Daniel Kareem Patterson, of Charleston, dead.
Authorities continue to search for the accused gunman in the shooting, Bobby William Johnson Jr., 26, of North Charleston.
Patterson arrived with his girlfriend Georgette Grayson, 26, at a Woodlawn Avenue home around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday so that she could pick up the child she shared with Johnson, according to the report.
The two men began to argue and gunfire followed, police said.
A North Charleston police officer who had pulled onto the street to perform stationary radar noticed the commotion from a distance.
The officer approached the scene as a shirtless man jogged between two cars that were parked in the road.
Then, Grayson appeared and yelled, "Bobby shot my boyfriend," police said.
Grayson did not return a phone call from The Post and Courier on Thursday.
Patterson was still alive when the officer arrived, though he appeared to be having trouble breathing, police said.
The officer called for paramedics to assist the Charleston man, who was lying facedown on a driveway bleeding from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Patterson later died at Medical University Hospital as doctors attempted to repair the damage, police said.
Witnesses reported to police that Johnson fled the scene in a white Buick Park Avenue.
Police later issued an arrest warrant for Johnson on a murder charge.
Johnson's last known address is on Sallie Street in North Charleston. He had not been found as of Thursday afternoon.
This is not Johnson's first run-in with the law. He was convicted of strong-arm robbery in 2004 and sentenced under the Youthful Offender Act to no more than six years, State Law Enforcement Division records show.
North Charleston police arrested Johnson in 2011 on a criminal domestic violence charge, and he was later convicted, according to SLED records. The disposition of that charge was not immediately available Thursday.
Patterson, the man Johnson is accused of killing, was convicted in 2013 on a third-degree assault and battery charge. The disposition of that charge was not immediately available.
