The S.C. State University Jazz Band will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday at Burke High School, 244 President St. The university's Charleston Alumni chapter is hosting the performance.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Proceeds from the concert will fund scholarships, which the alumni chapter awards to deserving youth from Charleston who attend the university.
The concert is part of the band program's annual spring performance tour. Various S.C. State ensembles travel throughout South Carolina to assist with high school recruiting and raise awareness about the university's music program.
The Jazz band is led by Linda F. Williams, an accomplished performer and co-author of the anthology "Black Women and Music: More than the Blues."
