Charleston County sheriff's deputies said they didn't find any victims or suspects after James Island residents reported gunfire early Wednesday morning, but the call resulted in two arrests on unrelated charges.
Maj. Eric Watson said deputies were sent to Fort Johnson Road around 2:30 a.m. after a resident reported hearing shots. Dispatchers received a second report about gunfire from a caller on Kentwood Road.
Deputies zeroed in on a house at 1367 Fort Johnson Road and soon SWAT team members were surrounding it.
Charleston police who assisted in the investigation reported seeing someone open the home's back door and fire a pistol toward the backyard.
Watson said deputies made contact with five people inside but didn't arrest anyone in connection with the shooting. But two men were arrested after deputies found out they had outstanding warrants on assault and battery charges.
Devin Storm McLemore, 22, and Tyler Austin Miller, 21, who lived at the address, were booked into the Charleston County jail.
The assault and battery charges were filed after McLemore and Miller attacked a man outside the Stag Erin Bar on Folly Road last month, according to the arrest affidavit.
