ABC's Elliott leaving show for NBC Sports
NEW YORK - ABC's top-rated "Good Morning America" has suffered its second personnel defection in four months, with news anchor Josh Elliott telling the network Sunday that he's leaving for a job at NBC Sports.
ABC News President Ben Sherwood moved quickly to replace him, appointing Amy Robach as the "Good Morning America" news anchor.
Elliott follows former "GMA" weather forecaster Sam Champion out the door. Champion joined the NBC Universal-owned The Weather Channel, where he began a morning show of his own in March.
Engaged Johnny Depp shows off 'chick's ring'
BEIJING - Johnny Depp showed off a diamond engagement ring that he called a "chick's ring" on Monday - indirectly confirming rumors of his engagement to actress Amber Heard.
Asked whether he was engaged, the actor replied: "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle." He laughed as he lifted up his left hand and displayed a single diamond on a band around his ring finger.
His comments follow months of unconfirmed reports of his engagement to actress Heard, 27, who starred alongside Kevin Costner in "3 Days to Kill" released in the U.S. earlier this year.
The 50-year-old actor was in Beijing to promote his new movie "Transcendence."
'Noah' tops box office with $44M debut
LOS ANGELES - After weathering a sea of controversy, "Noah" arrived in first place at the weekend box office.
Paramount's biblical epic starring Russell Crowe in the titular role opened with $44 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The imaginative take on the tale of Noah's Ark by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky led some religious groups to claim the story had been inaccurately portrayed and prompted Paramount to add a disclaimer to marketing materials saying that "artistic license has been taken" in telling the story.
Lionsgate's teen science-fiction thriller "Divergent" starring Shailene Woodley earned $26.5 million in its second weekend.
Disney's globe-trotting Muppet sequel "Muppets Most Wanted" featuring Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais came in third place with $11.4 million in its second weekend.
Elton John, partner to have 'quiet' wedding
Elton John and his partner David Furnish are planning a low-profile wedding in May, following a change in British law allowing gay marriages.
The singer told NBC's Today show that he wants to celebrate "very quietly," and added: "It will be a joyous occasion and we will have our children."
The two men, who have been in a civil partnership since 2005, have two children.
In quotes released on NBC's website Monday, the singer said: "We shouldn't just say `Oh, well, we have a civil partnership, we're not going to bother to get married.' We will get married."
