Boats restricted from nearing Ravenel Bridge during Cooper River Bridge Run

A security zone will restrict boat access near the Arthur Ravenel Bridge during the Cooper River Bridge Run between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Boaters will be unable to approach the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge during this year's Cooper River Bridge Run on Saturday, according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.

A security zone will prohibit people and boats from entering or anchoring in the zone, which is 200 yards north of the Ravenel Bridge, including Town Creek, and extending south to the area between the Charleston Maritime Center and the USS Yorktown.

The restriction will be in place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Coast Guard officials say it is necessary for the safety of runners and the public.

Exceptions can only be made if authorized by the Coast Guard Captain of the Port in Charleston, and the zone will be enforced by federal, state and local agencies.

Police are also advising that any bicycles left on the bike corrals on King Street must be removed by 2 a.m. Saturday.

Any bikes remaining on the corrals after that time will be removed and stored at the Charleston Police Department.

Retrieval of the bike will cost $45.

It will not apply to the corral at King and Cannon streets because it is not on the run's path, officials said.
