A downtown Charleston hotel was briefly evacuated Monday night after somebody reported a fire.
Guests were evacuated from the Doubletree Hotel on Church Street about 7:15 p.m. Several dozen people stood on the sidewalks across the street from the hotel while several fire trucks converged on the scene and police blocked off streets.
Guests were let back inside after 15 or 20 minutes.
Crews responded because somebody thought there was a fire on a roof near the hotel, Charleston Fire Department Capt. Ryan Kunitzer said. Firefighters checked the area and didn't find anything, he said.
