Barbara Melvin, senior vice president of external affairs at the State Ports Authority, has been chosen as 2014 Woman of the Year by the Charleston Women in International Trade. Melvin has more than 16 years of service to the port. Previously, she was director of government relations for the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. She will be honored April 8 at the group's soiree at Charles Towne Landing.
Kimberly P. Shelton, an S.C. Legal Services staff attorney in Charleston, has been named the 2013 Ellen Hines Smith Legal Services Lawyer of the Year by the S.C. Bar Foundation and S.C. Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission. She has a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Charleston and a Juris Doctor from the Vermont Law School. She helped create a program to assist victims of domestic violence.
Linda King has received a TV Emmy Award for a feature she produced for "The American Veteran," a video news magazine sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs. She is president and owner of King Media Associates of Mount Pleasant.

Dr. Barton L. Sachs, chief of staff, chief administrative officer and professor of orthopedics at the Medical University of South Carolina, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
