Peter Boyd scored 34 seconds into overtime to cap a hat trick as South Carolina defeated Fort Wayne, 3-2, on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
Boyd's goal off a Kevin Ryan assist was his third of the night for the Stingrays, who improved to 39-21-2-4, while the Komets fell to 31-23-7-5.
The Komets kicked off the scoring 7:51 into the contest with a tally from defenseman Jace Coyle.
Boyd tied the contest late in the frame beating former Stingrays goaltender Max Strang (27 saves on 30 shots) at 17:21. Forward Dale Mitchell and defenseman Steve Spinell added assists.
With five seconds to play in the period, Komets forward Aaron Clarke reclaimed the lead putting a shorthanded tally past Stingrays netminder Allen York (24 saves on 26 shots).
Just 34 seconds into the third period, Boyd buried the tying tally with help from Mitchell and rookie Stephan Vigier.
In overtime, Boyd completed the hat trick with his team-leading 25th goal and 63rd point of the season.
Both teams finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play.
The Stingrays kick off a five-game road trip Sunday against the Greenville Road Warriors at 3 p.m. at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
