Charleston police responded late Tuesday to a shooting that wounded a man in West Ashley.
According to officials with Charleston County's Consolidated Dispatch Center, authorities were notified around 11:30 p.m. about the shooting in the area Hawthorne Westside Apartments. The complex is located north of Paul Cantrell Boulevard at 2235 Ashley Crossing Drive.
First responders arrived at the scene and found an off-duty Charleston police officer attempting to stanch the blood from a man's gunshot wound, an incident report stated.
The wounded man, a 24-year-old from Florence, had been shot in his right leg, police said.
Paramedics transported the man to Medical University Hospital with injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
No arrests had been made in the shooting Wednesday afternoon, he said.
