A teacher at Ashley Ridge High School had to receive stitches Monday afternoon after being hit in the face by a student, officials said.
According to Dorchester School District spokeswoman Pat Raynor, the student became disrespectful toward the teacher, who was performing lunch duty.
The situation turned violent when the student hit the woman in the face. The teacher had to receive several stitches as a result of the assault, Raynor said.
The student was charged by Dorchester County sheriff's deputies but the Sheriff's Office did not immediately say what those charges were.
The student will also face disciplinary proceedings with the district, Raynor said. She did not identify the student, the student's sex or grade level.
