A Charleston County deputy shot a dog that bit him Monday afternoon, according to Maj. Eric Watson.
About noon, a deputy was sent to U.S. Highway 17 and S.C. Highway 45 around Awendaw to investigate a report that stray dogs were walking in the road and creating a traffic hazard, Watson said. The deputy saw a dog in the road that apparently had been hit by a car.
While trying to remove the dog from the road, another dog attacked him and bit him on the forearm, Watson said. The deputy described the dog as a pit bull. The deputy pulled out his gun and fired several shots, killing the dog.
The deputy was treated for injuries. The Sheriff's Office is reviewing the incident, Watson said.
