Perhaps it's the fact that Charleston has become the backdrop of a national reality TV series. Or it could be all those national accolades, such as Conde Nast Traveler's rating as the best destination in the country for the past three years.
Whatever the reason may be, people are more curious than ever about Charleston, and they're taking to the web to find out what it's all about.
The number of times Charleston was plugged into search engines has increased by 131 percent since 2012, one of the most drastic hikes in online searches for destinations in the United States, according to a Fodor's Travel report posted by the USA Today.
Other U.S. destinations that saw the most dramatic hike in online searches were:
Texas Hill Country by 258%
Savannah, Ga. by 142%
Florida Keys by 133%
Maryland Eastern Shore by 126%
