When owners of a plush, 14-year-old East Cooper home redid the kitchen a few seasons ago, they installed quartz countertops and ample cabinets.

The couple picked out upper end Bosch appliances such as stainless steel refrigerator, oven, range-top, microwave and wine cooler under the wet bar.

And they anchored the kitchen's center island with cherry-raised panels. It wasn't on a whim, either. Lighter shaded wood feels "warm and inviting," says Behren Kittrell, Realtor with Charleston Flat Fee Real Estate.

Situated at 1837 Shell Ring Circle in Dunes West, the two-story house shows off a number of easy-to-overlook but telling details such as the cherry paneling. The residence, also graced with a swimming pool and a slightly-more-than-acre yard, is on the market for $950,000.

Custom built in 2000 by local contractor Max Crosby and endorsed by Southern Living, the brick home sports four bedrooms, including a downstairs master suite. There are three full baths and a powder room. The owners turned one sleeping area over the garage into a game room marked with big screen TV, bead board ceiling, bar, built-in shelves, window seat and a closet.

Other perks include gas fireplaces in the first floor den and second level study, large first-floor laundry room, surround sound and intercom systems, central vacuum, outdoor hot tub, screened-in porch and ground floor windows with transoms looking out on the extra-large zoysia grass lawn.

The property rests in a prized spot, backing up to the second hole at Dunes West golf course. The yard parallels the tee box - making it very unlikely that even errant golf balls would land there or strike the house. Another barrier: a pond between the golf hole and the back yard, which has a low, metal fence.

Still, the house is in hearing range of the tee, and the owners once in a while will sit out and listen to the running commentaries of golfers as they play through, says Kittrell, who is listing agent at 1837 Shell Ring Circle.

Off the main stairs, the second floor spotlights two bedrooms for guests or youngsters, a balcony overlooking the living room, and a sizable office with built-in oak bookshelves, paneled pocket doors and fireplace with stone surround.

Bathrooms sport ceramic tile floors, and bright wall colors enliven most rooms. Off the foyer, the formal dining room shows off a brilliant chandelier as well as artistic flourishes on the tray ceiling.

"It's a real homey (residence)," Kittrell says. "I feel like we've got a good price."

The house stands near the entrance to Osprey Cove in Dunes West. Heading north, take U.S. Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant to S.C. Highway 41. Turn left on Highway 41 and travel about three miles. Make a right at the traffic light on Dunes West Boulevard. Go about a mile and steer left at the main gate to Dunes West. Follow Wando Plantation Way to Colonel Vanderhorst Circle and turn right. Continue on Colonel Vanderhorst to Shell Ring Circle and make a right. Ahead on the left is 1837 Shell Ring Circle.
