South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier's annual donations back to the university have reached the $1 million mark.
"I am very blessed and fortunate to be the head coach here at South Carolina and to be able to give back to our school," Spurrier said. "Working under the direction of President Harris Pastides and Athletics Director Ray Tanner is simply the best."
Spurrier, whose owns a 77-39 record in nine seasons at USC, ranks among the nation's top 10 highest paid college football coaches with a salary of $4 million per year.
"Steve and Jerri Spurrier have demonstrated their commitment to Carolina in many ways over the years," Pastides said. "They are an integral part of why we are a successful university. The Board of Trustees and I thank them for their generosity."
The USC athletics department has raised over $192 million through the Garnet Way Campaign to support student-athletes, provide scholarships and academic support, and construct facilities.
"Coach Spurrier and Jerri are proud Gamecocks and an important part of our team," said Tanner. "Their passion for this university is evident and an example for us all. We appreciate the Spurriers' generosity to our program."
