Authorities on Friday said the skeletal remains found in Summverville Thursday are those of a male who had been dead for at least five years.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet said he could not release other information yet.
The remains were discovered in an abandoned house on Parsons Road by Spell's Grocery by a man who takes pictures of abandoned houses, Nisbet said.
Authorities did not know if the man died at the house or had been placed there, Nisbet said.
The Coroner's Office and the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
