For the first time since it was established in 1976, Bits of Lace is expanding beyond downtown Charleston.
The upscale lingerie and sleepwear boutique at 302 King St. is opening its second location in Mount Pleasant at 453 W. Coleman Blvd. near Shem Creek.
Pearl, a women's boutique, closed and moved out of the space last month.
Bits of Lace first opened on Vendue Range, but after a brief stint near Waterfront Park, the store joined the then-blossoming retail hub on King Street, where it has operated for more than 35 years. The move to East Cooper is the boutique's first brick-and-mortar expansion. An online store, www.bitsoflace.com, was launched in 2005.
Regal Entertainment Group will debut its first giant screen theater in the Charleston market Thursday with a showing of "Divergent" at Regal Azalea Square Stadium 16.
Billed as the Regal Premium Experience, the state-of-the-art screening room features a 53-foot screen with high-definition digital projectors, a powerful surround sound system and luxury seating. The Summerville theater at 215 Azalea Square Blvd. is Regal's third location in South Carolina to introduce the high-tech theater room. Tickets are $12-$15.
Spring for ice
Rita's Italian Ice will mark the first official day of spring Thursday by giving away free Italian ice all day. The local dessert shop is in North Charleston at 4958 Centre Pointe Drive, across from the Tanger Outlet Center.
Five Guys adds two
Five Guys Burger and Fries has leased a restaurant space at North Rivers Towne Centre. The fast-casual burger joint will replace the former Starbucks coffee shop in the Target-anchored shopping center at 7250 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. Five Guys is also opening another North Charleston location in April at the Corner at Wescott Shopping Center on Dorchester Road.
Clay Rice, an artist who specializes in shadowed silhouette portraits, will take clients at Wonder Works on Saturday. Those interested in having portraits made can visit the Mount Pleasant toy store at 624 Long Point Road from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., or 3-5 p.m. at the West Ashley location at 975 Savannah Highway.
