Sue Churchich of Bluffton and Dawn Woodard of Greer teamed for a 3-under-par 69 Wednesday and a three-stroke victory in the Women's South Carolina Golf Association Team Championship played at Seabrook Island Club's Crooked Oaks course.
Churchich and Woodard finished the 36-hole event at 3-undar-par 141. It was the second victory in the event for Churchich and Woodard, who won the title in 2012. Woodard also was part of the winning team in 2010 and 2011 with a different partner.
A pair of members of the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame, Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant and Karen Ferree of Hilton Head, finished at 144, shooting a second-round 71 with six birdies and five bogeys.
Cecilia Fournil of Columbia and Lea Venable of Simpsonville finished third at 147; Ashley Rose of North Augusta and Leigh Coulter of Hopkins were fourth at 148; and defending champions Sharon Son Hing of Hilton Head and Kristine Berger of Bluffton moved from 10th to fifth at 149.
The opening-round format was four-ball (best individual score of the team) while the final round was modified alternate shot with each player hitting a tee shot, players switching balls for their second shot and then selecting the best ball and playing alternate shot until the ball was holed.
