Sue Churchich of Bluffton and Dawn Woodard combined for an even-par 72 Tuesday to take a one-stroke lead over Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant and Karen Ferree of Hilton Head in the Women's South Carolina Golf Association Team Championship at Seabrook Island Club's Crooked Oaks Course.
Churchich and Woodard made three birdies, a double bogey and a bogey. The Ferree-Brown team made one birdie and one double bogey.
Four teams are tied for third at 2-over 74 in the 36-hole event - Cecilia Fournil of Columbia and Lea Venable of Simpsonville; Ashley Rose of North Augusta and Leigh Coulter of Hopkins; Terrie Allemang of Hilton Head and Jennifer Adams of Bluffton; and Natalie Huff of Elgin and Suzann Bartley of Columbia.
Defending champions Sharon Son Hing of Hilton Head and Kristine Berger of Bluffton shot 77 and are in 10th place.
The opening-round format was four-ball (best individual score of the team), while Wednesday's final round is modified alternate shot with each player hitting a tee shot, players switching balls for their second shot and then selecting the best ball and playing alternate shot until the ball is holed.
