A Wadmalaw man accused of striking a woman as she changed a tire on her car Monday night was charged with driving under the influence, Charleston County sheriff's deputies said.
Sarah Steed, 29, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson.
Dennis Patrick O'Keefe, 59, of Anchor Watch Drive was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
Charleston County sheriff's deputies were sent to Maybank Highway and Bears Bluff Road at 9:27 p.m., Watson said.
Steed was parked on the side of Maybank Highway changing a tire on her white Toyota Solara when her car was struck by a silver Nissan Altima that was heading toward Bears Bluff Road, Watson said. She was thrown by the impact.
No one else was injured in the crash.
The Sheriff's Office's Traffic Division is investigating.
