An East Cooper commercial real estate firm has landed a veteran agent who won a top broker award just two years ago.
Edie DuBose recently joined Adams & Wilson Development as a commercial real estate broker. She has represented national, regional and local clients, racking up 20 years in the real estate field.
At the same time, DuBose has built up professional experience. She's a member of the Commercial Investment Division of Realtors (CID), Charleston chapter of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) and the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Local real estate agent named 'military relocation professional'
Herb Uthlaut, a Charleston area Realtor, received a certification showing that he can skillfully assist armed forces personnel and veterans in finding suitable homes.
The Coldwell Banker United, Realtors agent earned the "nationally recognized" Military Relocation Professional title. The National Association of Realtors confers the MRP designation to agents "who want to help military personnel and veterans find housing solutions that best meet their needs and allow them to take full advantage of their military benefits," the organization says.
When military staff and their families relocate, they can benefit from a smooth transition brought about by real estate professionals versed in relocations, according to the NAR.
Realtors who earn this certification know how to work with active duty military homebuyers and sellers, as well as veterans, the group notes.
"Homeownership is an important part of the fabric of America, and having a stable home environment is vital when men and women of the military are called away to serve their country," says Gary Thomas, NAR president and broker-owner of Evergreen Realty in Villa Park, Calif.
"Working with a Realtor who understands specific needs and timetables related to military service will help make their transfers easier, faster and less stressful," he says.
According to Thomas, the relocation certification will help Realtors "hone their knowledge and skills for working with veterans and active duty military buyers and sellers." Agents thereby can ensure that homeownership remains affordable and accessible to servicemen, servicewomen and veterans, he says.
The certification provides NAR members with resources "to accommodate current and former military service members at any stage of their career."
To earn the certification, Realtors must be in good standing with the national association, complete a one-day military relocation professional "core" course; finish two webinars; and read required books to learn military background and better understand "important acronyms and military culture."

InstaGallery opens at dunes properties' Real Estate Studio
Visual social media and local real estate will cross paths this week in downtown Charleston.
What's billed as the first Charleston InstaGallery show is being displayed March 12-April 22 at The Real Estate Studio. The studio doubles as the downtown office of dunes properties, a boutique real estate company in the metro area.
According to dunes properties, the gallery represents "a curated photographic tour of Charleston through the eyes" of the local Instagram community.
Mark Swick and Paul Dunker, local Instagram users who "have a passion for capturing the unique beauty of Charleston," are the InstaGallery curators, dunes properties notes.
The show will feature 12 "talented" Lowcountry-based Instagram artists. Their photographs were selected from thousands of submissions, according to dunes properties. Featured photographs will be available for purchase throughout the show, organizers say.
Instagram is a globally popular online service for photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking. "Its signature feature is the ability for users to apply digital filters to pictures, and then share them on a variety of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter," according to dunes properties.
As part of the six-week show, The Real Estate Studio will host a reception 5-8 p.m. March 22 at its 214 King St. locale.

Kattan, Smith join major brokerage's Summerville Main Street office
Carolina One has brought on two new agents, one who has built up years of real estate experience and the other with a background in mentoring.
The Realtors - Samira Kattan and Yeadon Hayne Smith - recently began working with the Summerville Main Street office of Carolina One Real Estate Services.
Kattan, who moved to Charleston eight years ago, has handled new homes sales for Centex/Pulte Homes, the Beach Co. and David Weekley Homes. Born in Quito, Ecuador , Kattan has an 18 year old son and enjoys playing volleyball and dancing. She majored in business administration at Gibbs College in Montclair, N.J.
Smith, a Summerville native, worked as a youth minister in Texas and until recently was a health coach for Take Shape for Life weight loss mentoring program. He graduated with honors from the University of Texas at El Paso with a degree in linguistics.
Smith's outside interests include photography, videography and reading. He has three children and lives with his wife Jessica in Summerville.

Last condo for sale at Six Fifty Six Coleman in Mount Pleasant
And now, there's one.
Condominiums first went on the market late last spring at Ryland Homes' "signature" condo village Six Fifty Six Coleman in Mount Pleasant. In nine months, the builder has sold 34 of the 35 one-level residences.
The home builder opened its sales office in May. Condo prices started at $310,000. The one remaining condominium is priced at $419,000, says Gayle Jinks, vice president of sales and marketing for Ryland Homes in the Charleston region.
"Six Fifty Six Coleman has been a great success, from the location to the features to the design and the marketing," Jinks says. "The community offers a unique lifestyle as well," she says.
The three-story residences at Six Fifty Six Coleman range in size from 2,100 to 2,414 square feet with gourmet kitchens, energy efficient appliances, two-car garages, optional private elevators, bonus rooms and lofts. They've sold at an average price of $390,000.

Less than 9 percent of Charleston area mortgages underwater
One percent fewer Lowcountry homeowners found themselves "upside down" at year end compared with the fall, an ongoing sign of housing market improvement.
The figures are derived from CoreLogic, a national real estate analytical firm.
According to the numbers crunching company, 8.9 percent of mortgages in metro Charleston-North Charleston - or 12,952 - were in "negative equity" at the end of 2013. The fourth quarter total compared with 9.9 percent, or 14,473 properties, in the previous three months.
Negative equity refers to mortgages where homeowners owe more than the property is worth, also known as "underwater" or "upside down."
Another 3.8 percent, or 5,608 homes, were in "near negative equity" for fourth quarter 2013 compared with 4.4 percent, or 6,431, in third quarter 2013. Those are properties in which the owner's home value stands at no more than 5 percent greater than the home loan.
The local mortgage numbers are part of a new CoreLogic analysis showing that 4 million homes returned to positive equity nationwide in 2013. That brings the total number of mortgaged residential properties with equity to 42.7 million, the company says.
At the same time, nearly 6.5 million homes, or 13.3 percent of all residential properties with a mortgage, remained in negative equity at the end of 2013.
Being upside down or underwater can occur because of a decline in home value, an increase in mortgage debt or a combination of both, CoreLogic says.
Of the 42.7 million homes with equity, 10 million are consider "under-equitied" with less than 20 percent positive worth. Those borrowers "may have a more difficult time obtaining new financing for their homes due to underwriting constraints," CoreLogic says. Meanwhile, more than 1.6 million residential properties are at less than 5 percent equity, referred to as near-negative equity. They're considered at risk if home prices fall, the firm says.
"The plight of the underwater borrower has improved dramatically since negative equity peaked in December 2009 when more than 12 million mortgaged homeowners were underwater," says Mark Fleming, chief economist for CoreLogic.
"Over the past four years, more than 5.5 million homeowners have regained equity, reducing their risk of foreclosure and unlocking pent-up supply in the housing market," he says.
"During 2013, more than 4 million property owners were able to regain equity due in large part to home price appreciation," says Anand Nallathambi, president and chief executive of CoreLogic. "Only 14 states have a higher negative equity average than the U.S., and more states should experience improvement throughout 2014," he says.
By state, Nevada had the highest percentage of mortgaged properties underwater or upside down at 30.4 percent. Florida placed second at 28.1 percent; Arizona third at 21.5 percent; Ohio fourth at 19 percent; and Illinois, fifth highest at 18.7 percent. The five states combined account for 36.9 percent of negative equity in the U.S.
Among the 25 largest metro areas, Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Fla., wound up with the highest percentage of mortgaged properties in negative equity at 31.5 percent. Next was Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Fla., at 30.4 percent; Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Ariz., at 22.1 percent; Chicago-Naperville-Arlington Heights, Ill., with 21.4 percent; and Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell, Ga., at 19.9 percent, according CoreLogic's report released last week.
President Circle titlist White chooses Omni agency
An experienced, award-winning Realtor who's also a former real estate franchise holder recently joined a new, start-up company in Berkeley County.
Connie White, who's lived in the Lowcountry for more than 30 years, signed on with Omni Carolina Real Estate as a buyers and sellers agent. The agency's based on Daniel Island.
White was named to the 2013 Realtor of Distinction President Circle, one of the top levels, by the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. She previously owned an Exit Realty franchise, and most recently worked as a Realtor with Prudential Southern Coast Real Estate.
