The Lowcountry's top spellers will compete Tuesday for a chance to go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Spellbound! is the Lowcountry's only regional spelling bee officially sanctioned by The Scripps National Spelling Bee, in Washington, D.C.
The competition will begin at 7 p.m. at Charleston Southern University's Lightsey Chapel.
The 50 finalists represent Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester 2, Dorchester 4 and Colleton County school districts, as well as Lowcountry Catholic Schools, the South Carolina Independent School Association and Lowcountry Home and Private Schools. More than 40,000 students took part in the elimination process.
The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington to compete in the national bee, which will be held May 25 to May 31.
