Hibbett Sports has opened on James Island, the latest of several stores the athletic retailer recently opened in South Carolina.

The 5,000-square-foot store opened last week at 1291 Folly Road in the Island Plaza shopping center, anchored by tenants such as Dollar Tree and Gold's Gym.

Operated by Hibbett Sporting Goods Inc., the retailer is an athletic apparel shop that primarily serves midsize markets with 900 stores across the country.

The Birmingham, Ala.-based company has targeted the Palmetto State for its expansion efforts over the past several years, according to a company statement. Since the first Hibbett Sports in South Carolina opened in Aiken in 1993, the company has grown its presence in the state to 36 stores, with recent openings in Walterboro, Georgetown and Beaufort.

Roadside to Rusty

The former 17 North Roadside Kitchen, a restaurant near Wando High School in Mount Pleasant that's been shuttered for more than a year, is getting a makeover.

The Rusty Rudder, a bar and restaurant based in Cornelius, N.C., has bought the space at 3563 U.S. Highway 17. The restaurant plans to open its new South Carolina location this spring.

CO on the go

After two years on King Street in downtown Charleston, Vietnamese restaurant CO is expanding into another coastal market with a new concept.

The restaurant plans to open CO Sushi in Myrtle Beach at the Market Common shopping center. As the name illustrates, the menu will center on sushi rolls rather than traditional Vietnamese dishes that the original CO restaurant, at 340 King, between George and Calhoun streets, is known for.
