RIDGELAND, S.C. -- The Internal Revenue Service and the FBI are investigating the operation of the Jasper County School District.
District spokeswoman Shellie Murdaugh says investigators from both agencies were at the district offices in Ridgeland on Wednesday. Murdaugh said she could not provide details of what the investigation concerns.
Assistant U.S. Attorney James May sent a letter to district officials asking them to retain financial documents, the minutes of school board meetings, employment files for top district officials and all letters and emails between district workers.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Beth Drake said she could not provide additional details but said the letter speaks for itself.
