A caretaker is accused of swindling more than $8,000 from her 90-year-old client, according to Charleston County Sheriff's investigators.
Dorothy Denise Shivers, 52, of Charleston, was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult Monday.
Shivers was a caretaker with Care For Life for Mabel Boykin, of North Charleston, according to an incident report.
Boykin discovered a purchase on her debit card account, the report stated.
There were 21 unauthorized purchases or withdraws from the account, totaling $8,691.37 and a forged check in the amount of $500 written to Shivers, according to the report.
A Care For Life official reported the discovery to sheriff's investigators. Shivers was released from jail Tuesday after a judge set a $25,000 bail.
