A familiar face will be appearing on national television competing for a chance to win a major modeling contract.
Allison Millar, 19, a Charleston native, appeared Wednesday night on the premiere of the second season of Oxygen network's reality TV show, "The Face."
Millar is competing against 11 other contestants on one of three teams and is vying to win a contract for the 2014 national ad campaign for stylist, Frédéric Fekkai.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell is one of the executive producers and one of the coaches on the show.
Millar, who grew up in Mount Pleasant and Charleston, began modeling when she was 12 years old.
"I always wanted to do this," Millar said.
Her mother, is currently an assistant solicitor who prosecutes criminal cases in Berkeley County and has been supportive of Millar's efforts to pursue a career in modeling.
"She's really been a trouper. She went to every casting call and every meeting," Millar said. "She told me I had to learn to sew because she didn't want me to become superficial going into the modeling business. So I did that."
Before she was 18, Millar had modeled in Miami and Atlanta and then moved to New York City, where she currently lives and works as a model.
Millar has participated in New York's Fashion Week and has appeared in national fashion magazines.
Millar said she believes the show will provide her invaluable exposure, win or lose.
The winner of the competition would become the spokesperson to the Frédéric Fekkai campaign this year and would receive personal mentoring from the stylist. The winner will also appear in the July issue of Elle Magazine.
