Reading, Pa. - The South Carolina Stingrays kicked off a six-game road trip with a 4-0 loss to the Reading Royals at Santander Arena on Friday night.
The Royals improved to 32-19-1-1 (66 points), while the South Division-leading Stingrays dropped to 33-16-2-3 (71 points).
Royals forward Josh Brittain broke the scoreless tie 19 seconds into the middle frame, lifting a shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Allen York (28 saves on 32 shots) from the top of the left-wing circle.
Moments later, former Stingrays defenseman Brett Flemming made it a 2-0 Royals lead at the 54-second mark.
In the final period, the Stingrays fired a game-high 16 shots on Royals goaltender Brandon Anderson (33 saves on 33 shots), but could not squeak one into the back of the net.
Forward Julien Cayer grabbed a three-goal Royals lead at 9:25, and forward T.J. Syner wrapped up the scoring at 13:52.
The Stingrays finished the game 0 for 3 on the power play, while the Royals went 0 for 1.
The Stingrays continue their season-long road trip on Saturday in Elmira, N.Y., against the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m. at First Arena.
The Stingrays will return to the North Charleston Coliseum on March 15 for Lowcountry Food Bank Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
