The Biblical Family Center, which serves children and families in Charleston's East Side community, raised more than $30,000 at its recent fundraiser, the annual Pink & Blue Gala at the Hibernian Hall.
At the event, former NFL Super Bowl winner and Charlestonian Travis Jervey shared his struggles growing up without a father and emphasized how important programs like the Biblical Family Center are to many children and families.
The nonprofit center on Hanover Street aims to establish long-term relationships with families and children through various ministries, including summer camps and after-school programs so that children living in low-income homes have access to fun and safe activities.
The Biblical Family Center was founded in 2007 to serve an area where many residents struggle with poverty, violence and a lack of quality education.
The fundraiser, which included gourmet foods and an auction, drew more than 150 guests. For more, go to biblical familycenter.org.
