A teenager has been arrested and charged with an attempted armed robbery on James Island last week.
William Washington, 16, of Kemper Avenue, is charged with attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
A woman was walking toward the back door of her apartment on Commercial Row about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 18 when someone on a bicycle approached, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at her and demanded her purse, Francis said. The woman refused and the rider fled on the bicycle.
Washington was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Charleston County jail.
