A Charleston County school was put on lockdown for about an hour Thursday afternoon while deputies checked out a report of gunshots nearby.
Frierson Elementary School on Maybank Highway was closed to traffic from about 4 to 5 p.m., district spokesman Jason Sakran said. Most students had already gone home for the day, and after-school activities inside the building went on as normal, he said.
The school was never in any danger but was put on lockdown as a precaution while deputies investigated a report of gunshots nearby, Charleston County Sheriff's Maj. Eric Watson said. There was no immediate word on the outcome of the investigation, but the report was of somebody shooting in the air, he said.
