Consumers wanting to shred documents and learn more about identity theft and the latest scams can attend several events across South Carolina March 3-7 as part of National Consumer Protection Week.
Sponsored by the S.C. Department of Consumer Affairs, the events will be held in Charleston and Columbia.
Lowcountry residents can attend two seminars Tuesday from noon to 12:30 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Charleston Area Convention Center at 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston. Members of Consumer Affairs' new Identity Theft Unit will be available.
Consumer Affairs is partnering with Shred360 to provide free document shredding of no more than five boxes. Shredding will occur between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday in parking lot E at the convention center.
Participants can register by calling 803-734-1378 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
