Goose Creek's girls' basketball program has been to the mountain top. Summerville is trying to get there. The top two Class AAAA programs in the area clashed on Tuesday night in the Lower State semifinals, and they needed extra time to decide the winner.

Summerville junior point guard Ashley Green hit a runner in the lane with eight seconds remaining in overtime and sealed the victory with a pair of free throws six seconds later as the Green Wave upended Goose Creek, 55-52.

Summerville (21-6) will face two-time defending state champion Dutch Fork in the Lower State finals Friday night at the Florence Civic Center.

Green's basket was only her second field goal of the game, but she scored eight of her 10 points in overtime.

"Ashley is a basketball player and sometimes we don't know who is going to take that last shot, but I was glad it was Ashley tonight," said Summerville's fourth-year head coach Matt Legare, who earned his first victory over Goose Creek in five tries.

"It was a great basketball game between two very good teams. I have so much respect for coach (Tim) Baldwin and I knew the first time we would beat them would have to be a war."

Senior wing Heather Chapman led Summerville with 21 points while junior guard Rodneshia Capers added 11 points.

Senior guard Alex Ludwig paced Goose Creek with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

"I knew it would be a tough game because the two teams match up so well," said Goose Creek coach Tim Baldwin. "For me, the biggest difference in the game was the game itself did not allow the players to decide the outcome. We were shorthanded most of the night. I felt like there were a lot of 50-50 calls that, in my judgment, did not go our way. That's life. I'm proud of our players. We just didn't finish it off."

Goose Creek did not manage its first lead until early in the third period and opened up a 37-32 lead after three periods. Summerville trailed by five at 43-38 with 2:17 remaining in regulation before making a late run to tie the game at 43 heading into overtime.

Summerville (55) - Chapman 21, Capers 11, A. Green 10, Z. Green 7, Mazyck 4, Aldridge 2.

Goose Creek (52) - Ludwig 13, Wilson 11, Linney 10, Joy 8, Bishop 5, Broughton 3, Frazier 2.
