MOUNT PLEASANT - The Wando boys basketball team advanced to the Class AAAA Lower State championship with a 70-64 victory over Dutch Fork on Tuesday night.
The Warriors will play Sumter at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Florence Civic Center. The Gamecocks advanced with a 45-37 victory over Goose Creek. Goose Creek's bid for a second straight appearance in the Class AAAA state title game came to an end.
Wando is 23-4 on the season. Dutch Fork checked out with a 19-8 mark.
Jamez Rogers led the winner with 27 points and Matthew Pegram added 17.
Jordan Davis led Dutch Fork with 19, Christian Mills tallied 11 and Deoin Fraiser 10.
Wando jumped to a 21-14 lead at the end of one quarter and 34-31 at halftime. The visitors cut the margin 51-50 after three quarters but Wando outscored Dutch Fork 19-14 in the final eight minutes.
