Passengers at Charleston International Airport now can go through a pre-check program to expedite their way through security - for a fee.
The Transportation Security Administration now offers a site for a TSA Pre-check Application Program in Charleston that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt; keep their laptop in its case; and keep compliant-size liquids and gels in carry-on bags.
U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents will now be able to go through a pre-enrollment process online at www.TSA.gov, make an appointment and complete their enrollment at the application center to verify their identity, present documentation to confirm their citizenship/immigration status and provide fingerprints.
The enrollment fee is $85. The temporary enrollment site until March 16 is at Coastal Glass Business Center, 3025 Ashley Phosphate Road, Unit B2-B in North Charleston. The permanent site opening March 17 will be at 1954 Ashley River Road in Charleston.
The application center is open 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
