The Charleston Police Department was investigating a reported robbery of a West Ashley bank around noon Monday.
Agency spokesman Charles Francis said a man with a handgun had robbed the Ameris Bank at 834 Savannah Highway.
Radio Road, which runs between the highway and Magnolia Road and is adjacent to the bank, was closed as the police investigated.
The authorities did not immediately give a detailed description of the robber.
Shortly after 1 p.m., Blessed Sacrament Catholic School emailed parents to notify them that the school was locked down.
