A blaze that damaged a West Ashley business complex was traced to a commercial dryer at a laundry facility, a fire official said Monday.
The two-alarm fire ignited after 2:30 p.m. Sunday inside the Ashley Hall Laundromat, but community educator Ryan Kunitzer of the Charleston Fire Department said its exact cause had not been determined.
Someone came out of the laundry facility and warned about 50 people participating in a dance recital at a club a few doors down, he said. Authorities ordered the evacuation of the entire complex on Ashley Hall Road.
Fire crews needed about an hour to get the blaze under control, Kunitzer said in a statement, and they managed to limit the fire damage to the laundry facility.
