Fort Sumter subject of History Press title
The History Press, a Lowcountry publisher, will release its new title, "A History of Fort Sumter," on March 4.
The book, by M. Patrick Hendrix, is $19.99 and widely available in bookstores and online.
Hendrix is an educator and cultural resources consultant, researching and writing on American history for public and private clients. He has written on African pottery production and rice planting in Colonial Charleston, among other topics.
Fort Sumter was a symbol of sedition for the North and holy ground for the South, and it was considered an essential holding by both sides leading to the Civil War.
In the book, Hendrix follows the tumultuous lives of the men who fought to control what later became one of the most revered monuments to the war.
