A Summerville man working in his yard was killed by a falling tree limb that was probably loosened by last week's ice storm Wednesday afternoon.

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office identified him as Jason Couch, 43. He lived near the golf course on Pristine Court in the Legend Oaks subdivision.

The man's wife found him in the yard about 4:30 p.m., Coroner Chris Nisbet said. Neighbors tried to revive him, but Couch was declared dead at the scene.

It appears wind blew down a limb that was loosened by the storm, although the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office was investigating, Nisbet said. An autopsy conducted Thursday morning showed that Couch died of a brain injury due to blunt-force trauma to the head.

Couch leaves behind a wife and two young children.
