Canada-based Walker Emulsions, a producer of asphalt emulsions and industrial emulsions for the building products industries, is opening a facility in Orangeburg County.
The $4.65 million investment is expected to create approximately 11 jobs, the state Commerce Department reported Wednesday.
Walker Emulsions of Ontario will acquire the 53,000-square-foot Engineered Polymer Solutions (Valspar) Building in Orangeburg County. The company expects to begin operations late this summer.
The company, the fourth Canadian firm to build a facility in Orangeburg County, is a subsidiary of the Walker Industries Group, a family-owned, private business and parent company to Walker Emulsions Inc., Walker Aggregate Inc. and Walker Environmental Group Inc. The investment is the company's first in the southeastern U.S.
"We're very excited to be opening a new facility in Orangeburg County," said Archie Reynolds, executive vice president of Walker Emulsions. "Our choice to locate here was in large part due to the tremendous support and assistance we received from the Orangeburg County Economic Development Commission and South Carolina Department of Commerce. They welcomed us with open arms."
