Tickets to a Poogan's Porch cocktail dinner with Dale "King Cocktail" DeGroff, a Peninsula Grill dinner with guest chef Frank Stitt and seminars covering sparkling wine and Napa Valley Cabernet are gone. But dawdlers haven't yet missed their chance to comparison-taste Italian sandwiches, eat a family-style Mexican breakfast made by Basico or learn gumbo secrets from Atlanta's Steven Satterfield.
At press time, the majority of BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival events still hadn't sold out. The festival's director of communications, Ashley Zink, provided the following list of events with a significant number of unsold tickets, explaining "many of these events have tickets available simply because they have large capacities, so they are by no means second-rate events."
In addition to the events listed, Sunday tickets to the Culinary Village, discounted from $85 to $70 for local buyers, also are still available.
Tickets can be purchased online at charlestonwineandfood.com. After the festival begins on March 6, tickets also will be sold through the Marion Square ticketing tent. Here are brief overviews of each program; the official descriptions are on the festival's website.
Friday, March 7
11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m., Spirit of Charleston: An Exploration of Rum. $65. Ann Marshall and Scott Blackwell of High Wire Distilling Co. show off their rum-making operation, and Charleston City Paper's Robert Moss elucidates the history of rum-drinking in Charleston.
2:30-4:30 p.m., At Home with Celebrity Tastemakers. $100. The book signing at William Aiken House features 15 authors, including locals Nathalie Dupree, Carrie Morey and Holly Herrick and visitors Gabriel Rucker, Nancy Silverton and Edward Lee.
Noon, Bouchon Lyon- nais Luncheon at Fish. $100. Chef Tory McPhail of Commander's Palace is cooking alongside chef Nico Romo.
4-5:15 p.m., Amori Vini. $55. Charleston Symphony Orchestra members play Charleston composer Edward Hart's three-movement salute to Bordeaux, Madeira and Tempranillo while the audience sips along.
7 p.m., Perfectly Paired Dinner at Lana, $175. Austin's Shawn Cirkiel, who's won praise for his burger, joins John Ondo in the kitchen.
Saturday, March 8
Noon, Muse Luncheon. $100. Banville & Jones is handling wine duties at this Italian-themed meal.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Stacked: A Sandwich Showcase. $75. Features Brown's Court Bakery bread and cold cuts with Derek Falta of Bull Street Gourmet and Ted Dombrowski of Ted's Butcherblock.
7 p.m., Bay Street Biergarten Cocktail Dinner. $125. Brand ambassadors from Hendrick's Gin, Tullamore Dew, Reyka Vodka and Lillet are pitching in with the cocktail prep.
8:30-11:30 p.m., Festival After Hours: Solid Gold. $100. It's an ode to disco, with 21 Charleston chefs providing the snacks.
Sunday, March 9
10 a.m., Basico Desayuno Mexicano. $50. The Park Circle restaurant is serving huevos rancheros and michaeladas in Marion Square.
4-4:45 p.m., Cooking in the Casbah: A Taste of Zahav Cooking Demonstration + Tasting with Chef Michael Solomonov. $45. Solomonov shares how to make hummus tehina and pita, eggplant salad and Zahav's signature cocktail, the Lemonanna.
4:30-5:15 p.m., "Greens and Gumbo: Straight from the Empire State" Cooking Demonstration + Tasting with chef Steven Satterfield. $45. Satterfield is bringing his message of local, sea- sonal cooking to the gumbo pot.
12:30-1:15 p.m., Meals Made from the Garden for One, Two or More: Cooking Demonstration + Tasting with Author Joe Yonan. $45. Washington Post Food & Travel editor Yonan tries to unify vegetarians and omnivores with spicy kale salad and a miso mushroom omelet.
