A Summerville woman died Monday night after a wreck on Dorchester Road.
The Dorchester County Coroner's Office identified her as Roberta Rodriguez, 56, of Birch Lane. She was flown to Medical University Hospital after the wreck and was pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m, Coroner Chris Nisbet said.
The wreck happened near the Old Fort Fire Department, Highway Patrol Sgt. Bob Beres said. The station is at 10410 Dorchester Road.
Here's what happened, according to the Highway Patrol.
A 2008 Buick SUV and a 2010 Toyota pickup were traveling west on Dorchester Road. The Buick was stopped, and the pickup tried to go around. The pickup scraped the side of the Buick, accelerated down a construction zone, went up on a sidewalk, went down an embankment, hit a utility pole and overturned.
Rodriguez was a passenger in the pickup truck being driven by her husband, John Rodriguez, according to the Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Buick, a 51-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt, Beres said.
The Highway Patrol was investigating, and there was no word Monday on whether charges would be filed.
